Suburb: Takapuna, North Shore, Auckland
Architect & Interior Design: Mercer and Mercer
Build type: Knock-down rebuild
Located in the heart of Takapuna, this architecturally designed residence replaces an ageing family home with a sophisticated new build tailored for contemporary coastal living. With only the original garage retained, the project effectively became a full site redevelopment requiring extensive demolition and groundworks.
The home is carefully planned to maximise sun, privacy, and elevated views toward the city. Generous living areas flow seamlessly to outdoor spaces, with expansive decking connecting to a striking pool at the front of the property and a private spa and entertaining area at the rear.
The exterior is clad in thermally modified timber weatherboards by Abodo, chosen for durability and its natural aesthetic, complemented by elegant iroko balustrade detailing. Together, these materials create a warm, contemporary façade suited to the coastal environment.
Inside, the layout supports modern family life with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a study, and a separate rumpus room, providing flexibility for both everyday living and entertaining.
“We are 70% through a knock-down and rebuild of our family home. We are finding the entire team at Lewis Build to be professional, approachable and simply excellent at what they do — building homes.”
