Suburb: Freemans Bay, Auckland
Architect: Jones Architects
Interior Design: Trinity Interior Design
Build type: Major villa transformation into dual residences

This inner-city project reimagines a traditional single-level villa as two sophisticated, side-by-side homes designed for contemporary urban living. Both residences were constructed simultaneously — a complex undertaking requiring careful coordination to maintain programme, quality, and consistency across the build.

The original structure was repositioned on the site and expanded vertically to create three-level homes with sweeping views of the city skyline and Sky Tower. Despite the scale of the transformation, key heritage details — including decorative fretwork and replica chimneys — were retained to preserve the character of the original villa and its streetscape presence.

Each home features three bedrooms and two bathrooms, with the entire top level dedicated to a private master suite. Hydronic underfloor heating, bespoke finishes, and high-quality craftsmanship ensure comfort throughout.

Outdoor living was designed for entertaining, with extensive decking, a covered louvred area, pergola seating, and a 10-metre heated pool — creating a private sanctuary in the heart of the city.

“Lewis Build are currently renovating three projects simultaneously for us, and we are so happy that we chose them to build our homes. The team are very personable and have made us feel comfortable and safe throughout the process, so we enjoy having them on site at our properties. The workmanship is second-to-none and communication is great from the team. We highly recommended Lewis Build to other clients looking to build high-end, quality homes.”
— Louise, Freemans Bay

Outcome: Award-winning residences that successfully balance heritage character with contemporary luxury and functionality.
