Name: Tim Michewski

Role: Apprentice

Age: 46

Started at Lewis Build: July 2021

On a recent visit to the Freeman’s Bay site, we sat down with Tim during his break to find out more about what inspired him to become a builder, learn more about him, and get his thoughts on working for Lewis Build.

Tim came to the construction industry from a house moving background, joining Lewis Build in July 2021. After 18 years in the industry, Tim decided he wanted a change in lifestyle and was keen to learn a new trade, so he started with our team as an adult apprentice.

When asked about his favourite part of the job, he explained “being on site with the guys and learning new stuff”, and he struggled to think of his least favourite part. After being with Lewis Build for almost a year now, what he likes about working here is the team and the way everything is run, saying “we have a good crew here”.

In the second year of his apprenticeship, Tim isn’t thinking too far into the future, explaining, “at the moment I just want to learn off these guys, so I take it day by day”. Tim is well-liked by his workmates, with Site Supervisor Will Cooper explaining that he holds a lot of respect and responds well to instructions. He adds, “Tim has an unexpected amount of energy that trumps most, he’s conscious of others, and is always striving to be better”. Currently working on the double villa project in Freeman’s Bay, Tim is mostly doing foundation and framing work.

When we asked Tim what he likes to do in his spare time, he explained he has young kids (Johnny, 5 and Eavan, 3) so he enjoys spending time with them and his wife Megan on the weekend. Before having kids, he played a lot of golf and he goes surfing when he can, either at Piha or somewhere along the East Coast.
